FEATURED PROJECT
Midcentury Modern Addition
Fox Point, Wisconsin
This Fox Point home began as a modest 1,200-square-foot ranch in a much-sought-after neighborhood in metro Milwaukee. Thoughtful design, skilled craftsmanship, and a carefully planned addition increased its size by 30%!
The addition completely redefined the layout. Coming off the front of the home, natural light and high ceilings wow visitors and set the tone for the home’s refreshed aesthetic.
A new dining room and two beautifully finished lower-level bedrooms all work together to provide the family with the extra space they needed.
To blend the addition with the existing structure, we wove new hardwood flooring into the original and applied cosmetic updates throughout the adjoining rooms. Exterior enhancements, including a seamlessly matched brick blend and a cedar v-groove porch ceiling, give the home a polished, cohesive feel that honors its mid-century roots.
Inside, smart storage was a priority. Built-in cabinetry was added to the mudroom, dining room, living room, and kitchen, along with a custom built-in desk for the owner’s home office. The basement redesign ensured every child received a dedicated bedroom, helping the home grow with the family.
With a new kitchen, better flow between spaces, and a significantly expanded footprint, this five-bedroom, two-bathroom home is designed for everyday living as well as special moments.
Midcentury Modern Home Addition & Renovation
For this project, we partnered with Jeremy Hartline as the architect. The hand drawing was completed in-house at Blue Harmony Homes, as this is how we begin our cabinet shop drawing process. While it may seem a bit old-fashioned, we believe this approach leads to a more thoughtful and refined final result.

A Modest Addition with Transformational Impact
Though modest in size, the 432-square-foot addition completely redefined this once-nondescript ranch, reshaping both the home’s layout and its sense of arrival. A new front entrance now opens into a light-filled living room with a stick-framed cathedral ceiling and an adjacent dining space, while two additional lower-level bedrooms, each with a Monarch window well and walk-in closet, expanded the home’s functionality to grow comfortably with the family.
Great care was taken to ensure the addition felt as though it had always belonged, from the carefully matched brick exterior and preserved original stone sills to the use of durable, low-maintenance Boral TruExterior trim.
A last-minute decision to add a stained cedar v-groove ceiling beneath the front canopy proved transformative, introducing warmth and texture while visually tying together the surrounding exterior elements and creating a welcoming, timeless first impression.
A Seamless Blend of Form and Function
The kitchen is a standout, seamlessly bridging the original home with the new addition while reflecting the owner’s vision. A three-wide window assembly anchors the space, filling it with natural light. Matte gold gooseneck sconces illuminate the sink and work areas, while a refined tile backsplash draws the eye toward a sleek white wood hood, framed by matching cabinetry.
At the center of the room, a stained island is highlighted by pendant lighting, with open stained shelves beyond echoing its warm tones. Stainless steel appliances and subtle matte gold hardware complete the space, creating a cohesive and elevated finish that feels both timeless and personal.
Dustin’s Pro Tip
When planning an addition or major remodel, think beyond square footage. Consider how new and existing spaces will flow together, materials, flooring transitions, cabinetry, and lighting all play a big role in making the finished home feel unified. Investing in continuity during construction helps create a home that feels intentional, cohesive, and beautifully connected from room to room.
